Ahead of this weekend's Dutch Grand Prix, Williams has officially announced a contract extension for Alex Albon, securing his sixth consecutive season with the team. The decision puts an end to speculation about the Thai driver's future during a challenging campaign for the Grove-based outfit.
Albon, who joined Williams in 2022 after a year away from a full-time seat, has been a central figure in the team's transformation. Last season, he scored 73 points and finished eighth in the drivers' standings, helping Williams achieve its best constructors' result since 2016. However, the 2026 car has proven far less competitive, leaving Albon 16th with just five points after the opening 11 rounds.
"Since joining Atlassian Williams F1 Team in 2022, the transformation this team has made is difficult to put into words," Albon said. "One tough year doesn't tell the full picture, and it only gives me more motivation to keep building and pushing together with the factory and our fans to achieve great things."

The new deal also cements Albon's legacy at Williams. He surpassed Nigel Mansell's record for most race starts with the team earlier this season and became the first driver to reach 100 starts for Williams at the Hungarian Grand Prix. His commitment remains strong despite the team's sharp decline in form from last year, when it finished fifth in the constructors' championship.
Williams team principal, James Vowles, expressed his delight at the extension. "Alex is one of the best drivers on the grid and knows better than anyone the enormous improvements we have made in recent years. Re-signing him shows the belief we both have in the direction we are heading," he said. Vowles added that Albon has been a leader of the transformation project since day one and there is plenty of unfinished business.
Williams is preparing a substantial upgrade for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix to improve their position, but the wider focus remains on the new regulations in 2026. Albon has repeatedly spoken of his personal investment in Williams' recovery, having been with the team through changes in leadership, personnel, and infrastructure over the past five seasons. "Our story is not over yet," he said.
