High-voltage tension gripped the Sepang International Circuit as Formula 1 qualifying got underway. Max Verstappen delivered a masterclass to secure his and Red Bull Racing's maiden pole position of the 2026 season with a blistering 1m35.130s lap.
Right behind the Dutchman, a massive statement was made by Ferrari. Lewis Hamilton charged to a stunning front-row slot, finishing just 0.298s off the pace. The performance highlights Hamilton's rapid adaptation to his new machinery and sets up a mouth-watering battle for Sunday's Grand Prix.
Rookie sensation Isack Hadjar starred in third for Red Bull, though he carries a pending grid penalty into the race. Kimi Antonelli put his Mercedes fourth on the grid, with Charles Leclerc rounding out the top five for the Scuderia.

McLaren duo Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri had to settle for sixth and seventh respectively. Further down, Fernando Alonso pushed his Aston Martin into Q2 before missing out on the final pole shootout.
Grid shake-ups are all but guaranteed for the race start, with Hadjar, Franco Colapinto, and Arvid Lindblad all serving post-qualifying penalties, adding an extra layer of strategic unpredictability to the Sepang showdown.
