Automotive giant Toyota is preparing an unprecedented tactical approach for the upcoming World Rally Championship (WRC) season. This bold move involves splitting their official entry into two distinct teams featuring completely different visual identities on the competitive stages.
The official announcement unveiled at the Jyvaskyla headquarters on Tuesday showcased a star-studded driver lineup. Toyota Racing will field reigning world champion Elfyn Evans, championship runner-up Oliver Solberg, and third-placed standout Sami Pajari.
Meanwhile, the Gazoo Racing Toyota squad will feature Takamoto Katsuta alongside returning heavyweights Ott Tanak and part-time contender Kalle Rovanpera. Although the rally machines remain technically identical underneath, the body panels will differ visually, with Toyota Racing utilizing the Celica while Gazoo Racing retains the familiar GR Yaris.

The arrangement gains further intrigue as current team principal Jari-Matti Latvala hinted at the possibility of appointing two separate team principals to oversee the respective camps. "Probably we will have two team principals as well, so then you can see some sort of fight going on inside the team," Jari-Matti Latvala revealed.
This dual-management setup opens the door for Juha Kankkunen to possibly lead one of the divisions. While final confirmation is still pending, the setup promises an intense internal rivalry when the 2027 championship gets underway.
