Marquez: Rivals Will Risk More, I Feel No Pressure in MotoGP Title Fight

Marc Marquez insists he feels no extra pressure despite re-emerging as a genuine MotoGP title contender in 2026, claiming his rivals have more at stake than he does. The Ducati Lenovo rider believes those yet to win a premier class crown will take greater risks in the championship run-in.

After a difficult start to the season marred by physical limitations and two missed races due to surgery, Marquez has bounced back impressively, winning three of the last four grands prix. His resurgence erased a 100-point deficit, lifting him to third in the standings, just 18 points behind championship leader Jorge Martin.

With several rivals struggling for consistency, many now regard the Spaniard as the favourite to clinch an eighth MotoGP title and a 10th world championship overall, surpassing Valentino Rossi's record. However, the 33-year-old downplayed the significance of adding another title to his CV, having already completed a remarkable comeback from his 2020 Jerez injuries by winning the championship last year.

Marquez highlighted the pressure faced by rivals such as Marco Bezzecchi, Ai Ogura, and Fabio di Giannantonio, none of whom have won a MotoGP title. “If you are world champion, it will change your life in the future. My life will not change, one more championship or not. But for them, yes. So that means they will put a lot of intensity. I'm saying it like this because we need to be very attentive because they will push a lot,” he said ahead of the Silverstone race.

Among the leading contenders, only Marquez and Martin have previously won a MotoGP championship battle. Marquez says he is keen to capitalise on the “second chance” given by his rivals but does not feel the burden of expectations. “If you ask them, they will say the favourite is the one that has more championships. Because it is easier not to have the pressure than to have it. But honestly speaking, I don't feel the pressure because my ambition is the same,” he explained.

He added that his rivals will push hard because a first title is crucial for them. “They've given me a second chance. I was completely out. With a 100-point advantage, if the leader had done a half-decent job, I wouldn't have been able to catch him. We will try to take advantage of it. We will try to fight until the end,” he stated.

With five riders separated by just 24 points, the title battle is set to intensify. Marquez appears calm and ready for the challenge, while his rivals must take more risks to achieve their first premier class championship.
