Lando Norris Sets Early Pace in Opening Brazilian Grand Prix Practice Session

The opening practice session at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace Interlagos delivered intense competitive action right from the off, with Lando Norris topping the timesheets. The McLaren star set the benchmark with a lap time of 1m11.717s, edging out the newly crowned world champion Kimi Antonelli by a narrow margin of just 0.082 seconds. This early display immediately set a high-stakes tone for the remainder of the weekend.

Heading into this round, the Woking-based outfit stands as the only team to introduce upgrades in Brazil, featuring a new front and rear wing package, revised floor furniture, and an updated beam wing. This aggressive development strategy appears to have paid immediate dividends on the challenging Interlagos asphalt, providing crucial aerodynamic stability.

Behind the leading duo, the battle at the sharp end remained fiercely contested among the heavyweight contenders. Red Bull's Max Verstappen dealt with team radio frustrations over unacceptable downshifts, yet still managed to secure third place, while Lewis Hamilton rounded out the top four for Ferrari. Notably, the top four drivers across four different teams were blanketed by just over three tenths of a second.

The session also provided valuable track time for several FP1-only rookies and young hopefuls. Gabriele Mini starred as the fastest among the rookies in seventh for Alpine, while home favorite Gabriel Bortoleto delighted local fans by slotting his Audi into eighth position between the two Alpine machines.

Away from the primary timesheets, Colton Herta successfully completed his crucial running mileage to secure the final point needed for his FIA superlicence. Having overcome previous administrative calculation hiccups from Mexico, Herta's milestone smooths out a significant hurdle regarding his future involvement in the Formula 1 paddock.
