The 2026 world championship battle suffered a dramatic twist as Jorge Martin was officially declared unfit for Sunday's Grand Prix at Phillip Island following a high-speed accident during the sprint race.
In a statement released shortly after the half-distance race, Aprilia confirmed that the Spanish contender sustained a fracture to his radius bone in his forearm, alongside a suspected fracture of the ulna near the wrist.
"Jorge Martin was taken to the circuit’s medical center following his crash," the team statement read. "The x-rays revealed a fracture of the radius and a suspected fracture of the ulna at the distal end. Martin will undergo further examinations to reach a definitive assessment of his condition. Martin has been declared unfit for tomorrow’s race."

Prior to his dramatic retirement on lap eight, Martin was locked in an intense fight for victory against Ducati rival Marc Marquez. Having launched brilliantly from fourth on the grid, he traded blows at the front before sliding into the gravel trap at high speed.
"It’s a shame about this crash. It was a nasty one. But I’m okay, despite a hard, very dangerous impact," Martin reflected on the incident before heading to Melbourne for further medical scans.
