Lewis Hamilton delivered a stunning Q3 lap to secure a front-row start for Ferrari at the Bahrain GP in Sepang. Despite the ongoing performance gap with the SF-26, the seven-time world champion produced a magical effort to split the competition, finishing behind pole-sitter Max Verstappen.
This unexpected breakthrough provides a massive morale boost for Fred Vasseur and the entire Maranello squad. Over the team radio after the checkered flag, Hamilton let out a long-awaited sigh of relief, reflecting the intense pressure and hard work required behind the scenes.
Speaking to broadcasters after the session, Hamilton was quick to praise the factory workers. He acknowledged that external negativity often impacts the hard-working factory staff the most, dedicating his front-row qualification to their relentless efforts in upgrading the power unit and car development.
Analyzing the technical side, the British driver pointed out that the SF-26 boasts an exceptional chassis and aerodynamic package. While they lose some straight-line speed, their superior cornering stability gives them a distinct advantage through the twisty sections of the Sepang circuit.
With a prime starting slot locked in, attention now shifts to race day strategy. The focus will be on maintaining tire life and converting this brilliant qualifying pace into a genuine fight for the podium against their fierce rivals.
