Isack Hadjar is set to return to the Red Bull Racing cockpit after missing races since the summer break due to a wrist injury. The Frenchman revealed he gained valuable insight from Liam Lawson, who substituted for him in the last three races. "I think it's good to have a driver that's actually driving another car coming into ours," Hadjar said. "Of course, the Red Bull is superior to the RB, but it's good to hear from him about the weaknesses of our car, if there are any."
Lawson, who usually races for Racing Bulls, stepped in at Zandvoort, Monza, and Madrid alongside Max Verstappen. He scored points in two of those three appearances, providing a direct comparison between the two cars. Hadjar added, "I won't go into details, but it's very good feedback for us. He's done very well."
Hadjar's injury did not require surgery, but he expects some discomfort upon his return. "I have a small fracture outside of the wrist and it's just quite a long process," he explained. "I didn't need any surgery, so it's all natural and it takes some time. It's still going to be painful for a while, but now it's going to be six weeks soon and it says that it's strong enough at the moment to resist the tensions."
To ensure his readiness, Hadjar underwent a simulator test. "The last time I touched the steering wheel was in Budapest, so it's been a very long time," he said. "So, it's good to be back. It's definitely a challenging track to come back to, but I'm excited." His comeback coincides with Red Bull confirming he will remain alongside Verstappen in 2027.
Regarding contract negotiations, Hadjar admitted he was largely hands-off. "I didn't even talk about it," he said. "I let my people do the talking for me. I do it on the track and that's about it. So yeah, it was very easy." When asked if the agreement was multi-year, he replied, "I actually don't know. I don't care. But if you're good, you stay, and that's it."
Hadjar's return to Red Bull Racing marks a new chapter in his career. He must prove himself in the remainder of the 2026 season, especially at challenging tracks like Baku. Lawson returns to the Racing Bulls seat, while Hadjar is back in the main team. The performance of both will be under scrutiny, especially with new technical regulations on the horizon.
With his 2027 contract secured, Hadjar can focus on racing. He hopes to quickly find his rhythm and help Red Bull contend in the constructors' championship. "I can't wait to get back in the car and give my best," he concluded. The upcoming race in Azerbaijan will be his first test after injury.
