Fred Vasseur Mediates Secret Meeting Between Hamilton and Leclerc in Sao Paulo

Scuderia Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur wasted no time upon arriving in Sao Paulo on Thursday night to gather his Formula 1 drivers for a crucial debrief following their much-publicized first-lap clash at the Mexican Grand Prix. Fresh off flights from Italy and Monaco—where Charles Leclerc had just returned for the birth of his first child—the pair met alongside Lewis Hamilton at a downtown hotel away from prying eyes.

Far from the media spotlight, the trio thoroughly reviewed the opening-lap events from Mexico, allowing Vasseur to lay down his strict expectations and forge a unified path forward to prevent future intra-team collisions. Speaking during Friday's team principals' press conference, Vasseur adopted his trademark guarded tone, keeping the exact specifics of the closed-door meeting under wraps.

"It went well," Vasseur told reporters at the Interlagos paddock. "It was good to discuss, good to clarify my position and their position. It was good to do. Now we turn the page and we are focused on the next one."

Despite keeping details close to his chest, Vasseur's remarks signaled that his overarching philosophy toward allowing his drivers to race hard remains fundamentally unchanged. The French boss has long resisted heavy-handed interference in on-track duels, even when it occasionally frustrates his star drivers. Vasseur insisted that the team's internal racing guidelines have not been rewritten.

"The guidelines are still the same," Vasseur explained. "I think they accumulated perhaps a bit of frustration because they are starting each weekend side by side and you have a kind of accumulation of facts. But at the end of the day, the guidelines are always the same."

Vasseur repeatedly emphasized that individual ambitions must never overshadow collective team success, pointing to the missed victory in Mexico after locking out the front row as a collective failure that required immediate correction. "The conclusion of the meeting yesterday evening was clear," he concluded. "It was a clear reminder that Ferrari is coming first. It's coming first for the brand, for the employees, for the tifosi and this we have to keep in mind."
