Motorsport, Sportrik Media - Ford has written a new chapter in Nürburgring history after the Ford GT Mk IV set multiple lap records during a recent run at the Nordschleife.
Driven by Frédéric Vervisch, the American hypercar completed the 20-kilometre circuit in Germany’s Eifel region in 6:15.977. This time establishes it as the fastest road-legal production car ever to lap the legendary track, widely known as the Green Hell.
The benchmark significantly improves on the previous record held by the Mercedes-AMG One, which posted a 6:29.090 lap. The margin highlights substantial gains in aerodynamic efficiency, power delivery, and overall vehicle performance.

Notably, the record was achieved under less-than-ideal conditions. Cold temperatures at the Nürburgring limited the car’s top speed to approximately 310 km/h, potentially restricting its full performance envelope.
In addition, the GT Mk IV now holds the record for the fastest lap by a car powered purely by an internal combustion engine. The previous benchmark, set by the Porsche 911 GT2 RS Manthey Kit, stood at 6:38.835, which has now been comfortably surpassed.
The third record secured by Ford is for the fastest American-built car at the Nordschleife. This category was previously led by the Chevrolet Corvette with a lap time of 6:49.275.
Despite these achievements, the outright Nürburgring lap record remains untouched, still held by Porsche with the 919 Hybrid EVO. The LMP1-derived machine, driven by Timo Bernhard, set a remarkable 5:19.546 benchmark.
Ford’s latest accomplishment reinforces its position in the global high-performance automotive landscape, demonstrating that internal combustion technology continues to deliver competitive extremes even in an era increasingly defined by electrification.
