MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Fermin Aldeguer of Gresini Ducati was stripped of his Malaysian MotoGP Sprint podium in 2025 at Sepang due to a post-race time penalty. The penalty was issued for breaching front tire pressure regulations.

Through in-depth analysis, Aldeguer initially finished third after starting sixth. However, an eight-second penalty dropped him to seventh, reshaping the race classification and impacting championship points.

Aldeguer delivered a strong Sprint performance, climbing three positions despite two crashes during qualifying—one in Q1 and another in the paddock while returning to the pits. However, a front tire pressure violation led to an eight-second penalty, standard for such breaches in Sprint races. As a result, Pedro Acosta was promoted to third, securing his third Sprint podium in four races.

The reshuffle also benefited Marco Bezzecchi of Aprilia, who moved from seventh to sixth. This gained him an extra point, tying him with Sprint winner Francesco Bagnaia for third in the riders’ standings. Bagnaia retained third place due to his two grand prix wins this season compared to Bezzecchi’s one.

Despite losing four points, Aldeguer retained his 2025 MotoGP “rookie of the year” title, earned after the Sprint, highlighting his consistency as a debutant. The penalty altered the championship battle, with Acosta strengthening his position through the additional podium. Both Aldeguer and Bagnaia remain favorites for the Malaysian GP main race on October 26, 2025. Bagnaia aims for his third grand prix win of the season with Ducati, while Aldeguer seeks his second career victory.

The penalty underscores the strict enforcement of MotoGP’s technical regulations, particularly tire pressure compliance. For Aldeguer, the focus shifts to the main race, where he must leverage his Sprint pace to compete at the front. Supported by Gresini Ducati, Aldeguer has a chance to redeem this setback. Meanwhile, Acosta and Bezzecchi are expected to maintain their competitive edge, intensifying the battle in the 2025 season’s final rounds.
