Honda HRC rider Jake Dixon expressed sheer relief after successfully finishing WorldSBK Race 1 at the Aragon circuit in sixteenth position, despite enduring immense physical pain. However, his highly anticipated full race debut has cast massive doubts regarding his continued participation in Sunday's crucial sessions. Dixon is making a painful return this weekend after suffering severe injuries during a pre-season testing crash at Phillip Island back in February, an incident that forced him into a lengthy recovery absence. His current physical state requires a critical evaluation on Sunday morning to determine whether his battered body can physically withstand the brutal demands of two consecutive races.
Speaking immediately after completing his debut feature race, the British rider explained that simply reaching the chequered flag was considered a massive victory for his side of the garage. He contrasted his current endurance level with his condition at Misano just one week prior, where he was only physically capable of completing four laps before retiring. Conquering the full 18-lap race distance at Aragon represents a monumental leap in his rehabilitation process, although it came at the heavy cost of severe arm pain. His absolute priority now is maximizing overnight recovery procedures while carefully analyzing his pain tolerance limits ahead of the physically demanding Superpole Race and Race 2.
Beyond the exhausting physical hurdles, Dixon is actively utilizing this highly restricted track time as a live testing session to better understand the fundamental characteristics of his Honda machinery. He openly admitted that his engineering crew is still struggling to establish an ideal base setup due to a severe lack of dry testing mileage. This developmental deficit is heavily compounded by the harsh reality that rival riders have already accumulated six highly competitive races this season, while he is desperately trying to catch up with essentially one and a half functioning arms. Facing a daunting total of 28 racing laps on Sunday, Dixon remains highly pragmatic about his performance expectations as he looks toward the upcoming two-week break before the Misano round in mid-June.
