The 2026 Superbike World Championship season served as a showcase for European manufacturer dominance, yet a major surprise emerged from the Japanese camp. Amidst the strong opposition from modern rival machinery, Kawasaki managed to emerge as the top Japanese motorcycle in WorldSBK 2026 thanks to the consistent performances delivered by Garrett Gerloff on the tarmac.
Achieving a top-ten finish in the overall championship standings felt almost defying of logic when considering the technical age of the machinery utilized. The underlying base of the Kawasaki ZX-10RR traces its roots back to 2009, even though numerous evolutionary upgrades have been applied over the years to maintain its competitiveness at the world championship level.
Interestingly, securing this status as the premier Japanese manufacturer bike was accomplished without the backing of a massive fleet. The American rider stood alone as the sole Kawasaki representative on the grid, outnumbering the lineup density of rival Japanese brands such as Yamaha with four R1 bikes and Honda deploying two CBR1000RR-R units.

Reflecting on the grueling campaign, the rider expressed his gratitude and satisfaction regarding the relentless efforts put forth by the entire crew. "We definitely had some highs and a few lows, but overall I am happy with the entire team and the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR," emphasized Gerloff, highlighting how they successfully extracted the maximum potential from the package.
Although the season finale at the Jerez circuit did not unfold ideally due to starting position struggles following the Superpole qualifying session, the rider remains thoroughly motivated for the future. He intends to utilize the upcoming winter break to rest, train rigorously, and return fully prepared to fight for significantly better positions.
