Ollie Bearman has insisted that he holds no regrets over the aggressive overtaking maneuver that ultimately ruined his race during the United States Grand Prix. The British youngster found himself locked in a fierce early battle for tenth position against Pierre Gasly before contact ended their clean fight.

The dramatic incident unfolded immediately after the Virtual Safety Car period concluded on the second lap of the race. Seizing an opportunity, the rookie launched a bold move down the inside at Turn 13, but the tight racing room resulted in a wheel-to-wheel collision between the two competitors.

While the initial move allowed him to temporarily secure tenth place, the heavy impact inflicted major aerodynamic damage on his Haas charger. Compounding the misery, race stewards handed him a 10-second time penalty for causing the collision, severely hampering his Grand Prix aspirations.

The accumulated damage proved too much to overcome, forcing the team to retire the car after completing just 24 laps out of the scheduled distance. Reflecting on the controversial moment in the paddock, he defended his aggressive driving approach regarding the Turn 13 battle.

He explained, "I went up his inside, he saw me because he left space but for me it didn't really feel like enough. It was a bit of space but only half a car and by the time I was committed, I wasn't disappearing."

The severe floor and bodywork damage caused a massive loss in lap time due to a dramatic drop in downforce levels. Despite picking up the hefty time penalty and heavy car damage, he maintained that the fierce battle should have been judged merely as a standard racing incident.

The desperate lunge was a calculated gamble born out of necessity, with the midfield outfit currently struggling to match the outright pace shown by direct rivals like Alpine and Racing Bulls. Taking conservative approaches simply would not yield the necessary championship points.

He further elaborated, "To be honest, I don't regret going for the move because at this stage if we don't do something special and get a bit lucky, be a aggressive and go for it, then we're not going to score points because we're not fast enough to do that on merit."

Offering his perspective on the contentious clash, the French driver acknowledged the ambitious nature of the move while noting the negative impact it had on his own race rhythm during the stint.

He stated, "I think the overtake was a little optimistic, not crazy, but a little optimistic. Unfortunately, there was this touch which cost us and cost probably 5-10 seconds of race time following it. It was not ideal, but at the same time, he tried it. It just wasn't the cleanest move."
