The hoodoo has finally been broken on the streets of Marina Bay as Max Verstappen powered his way to his very first pole position for the Singapore Grand Prix. Having previously secured three front-row second places in 2017, 2018, and 2024, the four-time world champion delivered a masterclass performance to conquer the qualifying session this weekend.

The Dutchman's dominance was already apparent on Friday when he claimed the sprint pole, followed by a commanding victory in the shorter Saturday race. This stellar run of form drew immense praise from the pit wall, with Laurent Mekies expressing pure delight over the flawless execution from both driver and machinery within the Red Bull Racing garage.

According to the team management, the secret behind the pole position was a combination of immaculate driving and a trouble-free car setup. Verstappen's supreme self-belief was highlighted by his decision to minimize running time, completing only a single run in the first qualifying segment on used tyres which temporarily placed them eighth before surging back to the front.

Laurent Mekies emphasized that this momentum is particularly encouraging given the vastly different track layouts they have conquered recently, ranging from Bahrain to their near-miss performance in Baku. Despite facing entirely contrasting circuit characteristics, the squad has consistently proven capable of fighting for race wins at every single venue.

Despite the immense joy surrounding the front-row lockout, the team could not hide their frustration over the mounting reliability issues affecting Isack Hadjar. After suffering a power unit failure during the sprint, further gearbox trouble struck during Grand Prix qualifying, leaving the squad with urgent repair work ahead of the main race.
