Turner finally secured his first-ever ANDRA Regional Sportsman Series victory by defeating Les Waight in the Super Sedan final at Davison Ford Sunset Strip in Mildura. The third round of the 2026/2027 season saw Turner navigate a competitive 17-car field, overcoming Tony Tedesco, Johnny Ienco, and Chris Lioulios before receiving a semi-final bye.
“It was definitely nice to finally get a Tree,” Turner said. “I have been pretty successful in my racing, but I just hadn’t had a win at an ANDRA event yet. The racing is always tough in Super Sedan; it is a super competitive class with some great racers. We struggled a little with a small tyre radial on a hot track surface, but we made it work.”
The win carried extra weight for Turner given who was in the pit with him: father Paul Turner, who builds the engine in the car and travels to the events with him. “I have to thank my dad, Paul Turner, for everything he does, from building the power plant to always being keen to jump in for a trip away racing. It definitely makes it special being able to share it with him,” Turner said.
Sibling rivalry has played its part too, with sister Jess Turner also racing. “My sister and I are always comparing notes, from driving habits to delay box settings, and I feel that has helped me be a better racer,” he said.
The ANDRA Regional Sportsman Series continues at Dragway at The Bend with the bike-only All Bike Nationals on October 10, followed by the SPRY Spring Nationals across October 22-25. Speedcafe is in partnership with ANDRA (Australian National Drag Racing Association).
