Yuki Tsunoda is set to make his Formula 1 return this weekend, racing for Racing Bulls at the Dutch Grand Prix. The move comes after Liam Lawson was called up to Red Bull to replace the injured Isack Hadjar, who suffered a wrist injury.
This is more than just a routine swap. Hadjar's absence forced Red Bull to act quickly. Lawson, who was previously at Racing Bulls, has been promoted to the senior team. Meanwhile, Yuki Tsunoda gets a golden opportunity to get back behind the wheel after losing his full-time seat.
Tsunoda's Return to Zandvoort
For Tsunoda, this marks his first start with Racing Bulls since the 2025 Chinese Grand Prix. Back then, he was promoted to Red Bull in place of Lawson—an irony that has now reversed. The Japanese driver will partner Arvid Lindblad at Zandvoort.

Despite losing his 2026 seat to Hadjar, Tsunoda remained as third and reserve driver. This opportunity proves that a reserve role can be a gateway back to the track.
In an official statement, Racing Bulls confirmed the change. "Racing Bulls can confirm that Liam Lawson will race for Red Bull Racing at the Dutch Grand Prix this weekend due to Isack Hadjar’s wrist injury," the team said. "As a result of the driver change, Reserve Driver Yuki Tsunoda will race for Racing Bulls in Zandvoort this weekend, alongside Arvid Lindblad."
The team also thanked both Lawson and Tsunoda for their adaptability and wished Hadjar a speedy recovery. This situation is a major test for Tsunoda to prove his worth amid fierce competition for F1 seats.
