British Touring Car Championship stalwart Tom Chilton is set to bring his storied and illustrious career to a close following the upcoming Brands Hatch GP weekend, drawing the curtain on two decades of elite tin-top racing.

Chilton has remained one of modern touring car racing's most recognizable faces ever since his debut back in 2002, where he stood out as the series' youngest-ever driver at the time. Across two distinct stints spanning 2002 to 2011 and 2017 to 2026, he boasts an impressive resume featuring 560 starts, 19 race victories, and 73 podium finishes, most notably highlighted by capturing the Independents’ Trophy in 2010.

His extensive motorsport journey also featured a successful spell in the World Touring Car Championship from 2012 to 2017, where he secured seven wins, 22 podiums, and another Independent Drivers’ crown in 2017. Upon returning to the domestic championship, Chilton piloted an eclectic mix of machinery before steering the Team VERTU Hyundai i30N Fastback run by Excelr8 from 2022 through to his final 2026 campaign.

The current season has proven to be a true test of resilience for the veteran driver, anchored by a commanding and memorable victory in Knockhill's Race 3 alongside additional podiums secured at Snetterton, Croft, and Silverstone. Following technical frustrations with their Swindon Powertrains motor earlier in the year, Chilton even switched to the TOCA-supplied M-Sport engine for the final two rounds to ensure he could extract maximum performance after a difficult weekend at Donington Park.

As he prepares for his final competitive weekend behind the wheel in the championship, Chilton remains focused on securing a fairytale farewell before Sunday's chequered flag waves for the final time. Reflecting on his emotional homecoming, Chilton said: “It’s no secret that I absolutely love Brands Hatch as my home circuit, and the full Grand Prix layout provides a real challenge as a driver as there is no margin for error. Going into the weekend on the back of a positive performance at Silverstone, I’m feeling optimistic about my chances and feel confident that we can be in the mix towards the front. My BTCC career started on the Brands Hatch GP circuit back in 2002 with a podium finish, so having made the decision to bring my time in the series to an end, it feels appropriate that my final race will be at the same circuit. There are so many fantastic memories from my time in the series, from that debut podium finish in the Vauxhall through to my time with Arena Motorsport in the Honda and Ford, and then the last decade since returning from the World Touring Car Championship. I’m hopeful that this weekend, I can bring the curtain down on my BTCC journey with another podium finish – hopefully with a trip to the top step!”
