An inspiring story unfolds within the Australian motorsport paddock as 17-year-old Lachlan Eccles prepares to make his landmark live broadcasting debut in the prestigious Supercars championship at his home event on the Gold Coast. This remarkable milestone highlights the sheer dedication and hard work he has poured into developing his craft behind the microphone across various supporting categories over the past twelve months.
Throughout the previous year, Eccles has consistently honed his on-screen broadcasting skills at rounds of the Hi-Tec Oils Super Series. He has covered Legend Cars Australia both dynamically from the pit lane and analytically from the commentary box. Alongside his on-air duties, he has also skillfully managed social media operations for both Legend Cars and Aussie Racing Cars under category owners TFH Racing, further cementing his deep involvement in the sport.
Breaking into the elite broadcast tier required immense perseverance and early groundwork. Starting out as a work experience participant at the Gold Coast event a year ago, Eccles steadily accumulated industry experience by working across multiple competitive racing categories including Super2. That relentless work ethic has now culminated in a dream call-up to cover the Aussie Racing Cars championship field on national television.

"I mean it’s a dream come true and an opportunity of a lifetime to say the least," Eccles expressed, visibly thrilled by the monumental career breakthrough. He made a point to acknowledge the key figures who paved his way. "I’d like to thank Nathan Prendergast for this amazing opportunity in the first place, along with my Mum, Dad, my mentor Matt Barber, and the Thomas family for all the opportunities they have given me."
For his official Supercars broadcast debut, Eccles will provide live reports directly from the pit lane ahead of all six Aussie Racing Cars sessions during the high-profile Gold Coast 500 weekend. Fans can catch all the action live across Fox Sports and Kayo, with Race 4 on Sunday afternoon scheduled for a free-to-air broadcast on 7mate, showcasing the young broadcaster's exciting entry into top-tier motorsport media.
