Senna Agius will step up to MotoGP with Tech3 KTM in 2027, partnering Luca Marini. The announcement marks a significant step for the 20-year-old Australian, who has shone in Moto2 and now gets the chance to fulfill his dream of competing in the premier class.
The decision to sign Agius was not without reason. Tech3 team boss Guenther Steiner, formerly Haas F1 team principal, personally chose the young talent. Moreover, Jack Miller's move to WorldSBK and the return of the Adelaide Grand Prix to the MotoGP calendar created a need for an Australian rider on the grid, making Agius's arrival an ideal solution.
Agius has proven his quality in Moto2. He finished runner-up in the Moto2 European Championship in 2022 before winning the title the following year. His debut in the Moto2 World Championship in 2024 yielded a podium, and he is currently fighting for a top-three spot in the 2026 standings. His consistency and speed have made him a highly competitive rider, ready for the next step.
“Today, a lifelong dream of mine has come true: reaching MotoGP. So many years of hard work have gone into this moment, and I'm incredibly grateful to Guenther and everyone at Tech3 for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. I can't wait to repay their faith,” said Agius.
Steiner added, “We believe Senna has the qualities to make a very strong step into MotoGP. He has shown impressive speed and maturity in Moto2, but what really stood out to us was his determination to keep improving and his attitude towards the work required to succeed. We are building a team for a completely new era of MotoGP, and we wanted to combine experience with young talent. Senna represents an exciting part of that future. We know there will be a lot for him to learn but we are ready to support him through that process. We are very pleased to welcome him to Tech3 and look forward to seeing him grow with us.”
With Agius on board, Tech3's 2027 line-up is complete. The combination of the experienced Marini and the young, hungry Agius forms an intriguing foundation as Tech3 begins a new chapter in its partnership with KTM. New technical regulations and machinery will pose challenges, but Tech3 appears ready to embrace that era with a solid rider line-up.
For Agius, this is the culmination of a long journey filled with dedication. Now he must prove he belongs among the best. MotoGP 2027 will be his stage, and the entire paddock will watch to see if he can meet the high expectations placed upon him.
