The race weekend at the Lusail International Circuit brought mixed emotions for Aprilia after a dramatic incident involving their star rider during the high-intensity Tissot Sprint. Aprilia Technical Director Fabiano Sterlacchini openly evaluated a bittersweet Saturday where massive potential was ultimately undone by a controversial clash at the front of the field involving Marco Bezzecchi.
The day had initially promised stellar results after the Italian rider dominated the morning sessions and claimed a brilliant pole position. However, the fierce battle at the restart of the Sprint saw Bezzecchi lose the lead to Marc Marquez, prompting a desperate attempt to reclaim the position that unfortunately ended in a high-speed crash.
Addressing the paddock-shaking incident, Sterlacchini maintained a pragmatic perspective while acknowledging the heavy toll it took on the squad. He firmly stated that the collision was simply an unfortunate racing incident rather than a malicious move. "The start of the day was very positive," Sterlacchini explained. "In FP2 we had a very competitive race pace and, in qualifying, we set the all-time lap record with Marco's pole position. Unfortunately, during the sprint, an unfortunate racing incident occurred. It is a pity that we are the ones paying the consequences, as has often happened to us."

Despite the setback in the main garage, Aprilia found plenty of consolation in the heroic performance delivered by Jorge Martin, who fought through physical pain to secure a remarkable podium finish. Sterlacchini highlighted the bold tactical choice made by the team during the red-flag restart. "Jorge's result was very positive; we were bold and courageous in the choice to change tyres during the restart. He clinched a great podium, especially considering his physical condition. This result gives us confidence, and we hope to make a strong comeback with Marco in the main race tomorrow.">
