Freddie Slater has declared himself reset and refocused heading into the final round of the Formula 3 championship in Madrid, following a challenging weekend in Monza. The Audi F1 Team-backed driver is ready to bounce back at the crucial moment in the title fight.
Impressive Rookie Season
From the outset, Slater was marked as one of the drivers to watch in F3. With the support of the Audi F1 team, every race came under intense scrutiny. Yet he delivered consistently. After trailing Ugo Ugochukwu in the first half of the season, momentum gradually shifted towards the TRIDENT driver. He took the championship lead in Budapest, a reward for his consistency throughout the year.
Rivalry with Ugochukwu
This is not the first time Slater has battled Ugochukwu for a title. The two went head-to-head in the Formula Regional Oceania Trophy before stepping up to F3, where Slater finished as runner-up. Now he has another chance for redemption. "It's been really enjoyable. We know we've found ourselves in another opportunity to win another championship in my career, which is very special. So it's been a really productive season," Slater told the media, including Motorsport Week.
Maturity and Learning
In his rookie F3 season, Slater's progress has been impressive. He reflected on the work and steps taken across the year, believing he has matured and improved race by race. "I think I've definitely developed a lot as a driver and matured. There are definitely certain things that I've improved on throughout the year or acknowledged that are definitely going to help me in my future. So I look at it as a year of learning to become a better driver and try and develop myself into a better driver. I think it's been pretty positive on that front. It's definitely when I look back a year ago, I've definitely improved a lot. So now we just carry this forward," he said.
Monza Challenge
Monza was a tough weekend for Slater. Despite starting on pole, he suffered a tyre issue and plummeted down the order. Meanwhile, Ugochukwu, who started from the back, managed to take the final points positions, incrementally closing the gap. Slater admitted that it could cost him the championship, but he cannot dwell on it. "It could cost me the championship. But at the end of the day, that's motorsport. Some days it goes your way; some days it doesn't. And the motorsport gods on that day decided it wasn't my time to put a nice big points gap between Hugo and me going into Madrid. So that's part of it. Now we reset and focus," he added.
Preparations for Madrid
Heading into the Madrid finale, Slater emphasised that he and the team have done a complete reset. The focus is now on performance at the circuit that will decide the champion. He acknowledges the pressure but uses it as motivation. With Audi's support and the experience gained throughout the season, Slater is ready to give everything in the final race.

Slater's performance is crucial not only for his personal ambitions but also for Audi's driver development programme.
