Lando Norris has shouldered full responsibility for his costly mistake following the intra-team collision with McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri during the sprint race at the Singapore Grand Prix. The aggressive maneuver in the closing stages robbed both drivers of valuable championship points, resulting in Norris salvaging only a single point in eighth place while Piastri dropped out of the points altogether. The struggles extended into the main Grand Prix, where both McLaren cars narrowly missed the podium with Norris finishing fourth and Piastri fifth.
Heading into the upcoming race weekend at Austin, a remorseful Norris emphasized that individual on-track execution remains the ultimate metric for success. He acknowledged his previous misjudgment and stated his clear objective to repay the tireless efforts of the factory staff through improved decision-making and better representation of the team during every session of the 2026 world championship.
McLaren Team Principal Andrea Stella added that the squad has thoroughly reviewed the lessons learned from a difficult triple-header regarding both raw pace and operational execution. Stella stressed that success in Formula 1 is never guaranteed, making continuous development, structural building, and collective progress the only viable path forward for the team.

To bolster their competitiveness in Texas, McLaren is introducing a handful of minor technical upgrades to the car. The primary objectives of these updates are resolving braking reliability issues and reducing minor performance deficits. Additionally, subtle floor modifications will be tested during practice sessions.
The traditional weekend format at the Circuit of The Americas provides an ideal platform for validation compared to the limited practice time of a sprint weekend in Singapore or the unfamiliar layout encountered in Sepang. The three practice sessions in Austin will give engineers ample opportunity to fine-tune the new components.
