New Zealand racing sensation Shane van Gisbergen has been officially confirmed to expand his racing footprint in the American stock car racing scene, committing to an additional program with the prominent JR Motorsports team for the upcoming 2027 competitive season.

The confirmation places van Gisbergen alongside his Trackhouse Racing teammate, Ross Chastain, with both drivers slated to share driving duties behind the wheel of the number 9 Chevrolet Camaro across multiple selected events throughout the year.

Although the complete full-season schedule has not yet been detailed in full by the organization, JR Motorsports announced that both competitors will tackle multiple races each during the 2027 campaign, extending a successful collaborative effort in the secondary tier of the sport.

Van Gisbergen boasts an extraordinary track record and a staggering winning percentage when piloting machinery for JR Motorsports on road courses and street circuits. Earlier this year, the Kiwi standout secured three stellar starts with the team, converting them into sensational victories at both the Circuit of the Americas and Sonoma.

Those standout performances were effectively bookended by an eighth-place finish at Watkins Glen, a race weekend where van Gisbergen's momentum was unfortunately derailed by an untimely clash and penalty drama inside the crowded pit lane.

Looking back at his remarkable introduction to the team in 2025 on the challenging streets of Chicago, van Gisbergen managed to secure a victory in his very first outing, before following it up with a hard-fought second-place finish behind teammate Connor Zilisch during an epic showdown at Sonoma.

The only major blemish on his otherwise stellar tenure with the team remains the controversial clash with Connor Zilisch at Watkins Glen, which forced the New Zealander out of contention and stands as his lowest result to date with JR Motorsports.

While van Gisbergen has heavily specialized in road racing circuits for the team, Ross Chastain has shouldered the heavy lifting on the demanding oval tracks, securing a remarkable victory at Charlotte this season alongside strong appearances at Darlington, Dover, Indianapolis, and Iowa.

With a 50 percent winning strike rate in his starts for the team, van Gisbergen remains one of the most feared road course specialists in the paddock as preparations for future commitments continue to take shape behind the scenes.

Before turning full attention to future multi-year programs, van Gisbergen will continue his ongoing NASCAR Cup Series campaign alongside Trackhouse Racing, with his next major challenge scheduled at the high-speed Talladega Superspeedway on Monday, October 26.
