Sergio Perez will start the 2026 Hungarian Formula 1 Grand Prix from the pit lane after Cadillac changed the suspension set-up on his car under parc ferme conditions.

The adjustment was made after qualifying and subsequently referred to the stewards. Under parc ferme regulations, changing the car’s set-up after qualifying requires the driver to begin the race from the pit lane.

Perez had already qualified in the final position. As a result, the decision does not promote any other driver on the starting grid for the 2026 Hungarian Formula 1 Grand Prix.

The main consequence is that Perez will not take his place on the grid and must wait at the end of the pit lane until the field has passed the pit exit following the start.

The pit-lane start also allows Cadillac to use a suspension configuration considered more suitable for the race, although Perez must begin behind every other driver.

Perez now faces a recovery drive from the pit lane at the Hungaroring, where limited overtaking opportunities place additional importance on strategy and tyre management.
