The Sandown Summer Enduro will serve as the season finale for the 2026 Australian Endurance Championship (AEC). The event, previously known as the AASA 6 Hours of Sandown, remains scheduled for December 4-6, the date originally earmarked for the now-defunct AASA Race Series.
This decision underscores AEC's commitment to delivering competitive endurance racing at the legendary Melbourne circuit. Sandown holds a special place in Australian endurance racing history, and AEC is eager to leave its mark there.
“The Sandown Summer Enduro is being put together and promoted by AEC, and it’s the right way to finish the season,” said category owner Karl Begg.
Begg also noted that the new era of AEC is going well and continuing to build. “The classing model and flexible regulations have created affordable, enjoyable and clean endurance racing, and we’re picking up new competitors every round,” he explained.
So far, the opening three rounds have seen a wide variety of cars, from production and GT-style machinery to a Porsche 996 Carrera Cup car. Tony Quinn/Matt McCutcheon have claimed two outright victories at Queensland Raceway, while Jake Camilleri/Glenn Walker took honors at Sydney Motorsport Park. Notably, a production-spec BMW finished second in each race, keeping the pressure on.
For Sandown, AEC will headline with seven support categories to be announced in the coming weeks. Licensing and permits will be provided by AASA. Victorian-based competitors are encouraged to enter, as it offers a unique opportunity to race in a national category at the suburban circuit.
With limited days available for national-level competition at Sandown, this event gives AEC a chance to etch its name in history. Livestream details will be announced in due course.
