George Russell has finally got his wish. The British driver will have his own dedicated grandstand, aptly named 'GRandstand', at Silverstone for the 2027 Formula 1 British Grand Prix.
The trend of home heroes having their own stands is growing. Lando Norris has his legendary 'Landostand' at Silverstone, a wall of fluorescent yellow that creates a spectacular sight as drivers power down Hanger Straight into Stowe. Tickets sell out within minutes every year.
Russell had joked about stealing Norris's prime spot, but he has instead secured his own prime real estate at Farm Curve, promising fans a "prime view" of the first four corners. "I'm really excited to announce that in 2027 for the Grand Prix, we're going to have our own GR grandstand," he said. "It's here, on the exit of Turn 1. So you can see all of Turn 1, Turn 2, the overtaking spot into Turn 3 and Turn 4. It's a really, really cool place on the circuit. It's one of the best, in my opinion."
The news comes as Russell faces a challenging title fight. He trails his teammate, Kimi Antonelli, by 66 points after the Italian's stunning comeback win at Monza. If Russell wants to return to Silverstone in 2027 as reigning world champion, he must quickly find his best form.
With this new grandstand, the atmosphere at Silverstone is set to be even more electric. Russell's fans now have an extra reason to flock to the circuit and cheer their hero on. Will this stand witness to Russell's championship resurgence?
