The racing weekend for Maverick Vinales at the Sepang circuit almost came to a premature end. The rider admitted that he had intentions of pulling into the pit lane and ending the Sprint race early in order to conserve physical energy for the main grand prix on Sunday.

Despite starting the weekend with promising speed since Friday's practice sessions, the Spanish rider felt significant physical fatigue in his arm. This challenge led him to consider sacrificing the short race duration to preserve his body fitness on the track.

However, a sight in the pit lane suddenly changed the rider's mind drastically within a matter of seconds. When he entered the pit, he saw that his mechanics had prepared a spare bike with wet weather specifications and component setups following the light rain starting to fall around the circuit.

"To be honest, in the Sprint, I tried to get the rhythm and see how the bike was working for tomorrow, and then I went in and the plan was to stop," Maverick Vinales told MotoGP.com after the Malaysia Sprint. A spontaneous decision was made upon seeing his team's garage setup.

"But I saw the bike ready on wet and I said 'Okay, I go out,' because it was starting to rain. I think after the chequered flag it started to rain like crazy," he added, explaining the tense situation.

Unfortunately, that bike swap gamble did not yield sweet results because the anticipated rain did not fall quickly enough to benefit his chosen strategy. After completing the exhausting series of races, the Red Bull KTM Tech3 rider immediately shifted his full focus to the crucial physical recovery process.

"I feel much less power on the arm compared Saturday to Friday. Anyway, I know now I need to recover a lot because two weekends in a row is very tough for me. So, I need to recover to make the muscles grow," he concluded.
