Jordan Dempsey Dominates to Win Opening Walter Hayes Trophy Heat

Thrilling action immediately took center stage as Jordan Dempsey delivered a commanding performance to secure victory in the opening heat of the Walter Hayes Trophy. Starting from pole position, the B-M Racing driver made a clean getaway, though he faced immediate pressure from Ammonite Motorsport's Hugh Esterson down into the first corner.

The pair went wheel-to-wheel through the opening complex on the way to Maggotts, where Dempsey firmly cemented his racing line to fend off the early attacks. Behind the leading duo, Wayne Poole Racing's Josh Fisher hovered in third place, while Sema Racing's Alex Ames put on an impressive display aboard his older Van Diemen RF90 machinery to run in fourth.

As the race progressed into lap two, Fisher tested the waters around the outside of Esterson at Maggotts before thinking better of it, opening the door for Team Dolan's George Quartermaine to slip past Ames. Further tactical battles unfolded at Brooklands, with Fisher applying intense pressure on Esterson though unable to find a clear way through.

The flashpoint of the race arrived on lap four as Fisher sought a way past Esterson along the Wellington Straight. A lunge to the outside at Brooklands resulted in light contact at Luffield when Fisher's front-left wheel tapped Esterson's rear-right. The slight bump forced both drivers into corrective action and allowed Quartermaine to momentarily capitalize, while race leader Dempsey capitalized on the chaos to double his gap.

Out front, Dempsey cruised completely unchallenged to the checkered flag, finishing 4.156 seconds clear of Fisher, with Esterson recovering to claim third ahead of Quartermaine on the final lap. Further down the order, Mikel Bezuidenhout's strong early run was undone by a late 10-second track limits penalty that dropped him down the classification.
