Max Verstappen was again complaining about his Red Bull via team radio during qualifying at the Italian Grand Prix, and he explained his difficulties after qualifying in fifth place.
The four-time champion is often vocal about problems during sessions, and qualifying at Monza proved no different. He even got out of the car midway through Q1, prompting his mechanics to point at various elements and discuss the issues.
Verstappen's Complaint: Car 'Jumping Like a Kangaroo'
After the session, Verstappen revealed that something failed again on the car. "As soon as I went out in qualifying, something failed again on the car," he told Sky Sports. "It's just costing lap time in the low speed, where the car starts jumping around a lot more than it should do."
He explained that the car was not compliant anymore over bumps and kerbs. "I was actually very happy with the car. We took a big step in FP3, but when you have no ride control and the car is just jumping around like a kangaroo, then you can't be consistent," the Dutchman added.
Big Threat Ahead: Race Could Be a Nightmare
Verstappen stressed that Red Bull must fix the issue before the race. "We need to be able to change whatever the part is because otherwise, it's going to be quite tough to race like that," he said.
He also voiced frustration over the car's inconsistency this season. "I would just want to have a car that is in a 100% state. We have too many weekends where things just go wrong," he stated.
Interestingly, Verstappen sat out FP1 to give rookie Ayumu Iwasa seat time, which Red Bull admitted hurt their development. Yet he was happy with FP3 progress. "It's a shame we couldn't translate that to quali," he concluded.
