Raul Fernandez might have just taken his first MotoGP grand prix victory at Silverstone, but the Trackhouse rider remains humble. Despite his recent surge in form, he insists he is not yet ready to be considered a title challenger for the 2026 crown.
The win in Britain was just the peak of a revival that started late last season. Before that, Raul Fernandez also secured sprint victories at Mugello and Assen. Those results have lifted him to sixth in the standings, only 56 points behind leader Jorge Martin with 10 rounds remaining.
A new two-year contract has also been secured, tying him to Trackhouse until 2028. However, Fernandez is well aware that the fight at the sharp end of MotoGP is not easy. He has to deal with names like Martin, Marco Bezzecchi, and Marc Marquez—riders who are used to battling at the front.
“Everybody thinks I can fight for the title. I don’t feel that I am a title contender,” he said ahead of the Aragon Grand Prix. “I always try to explain that, until the numbers say no, I will try to do my best. But I am the rider who can be there in some races, but also the rider who can make mistakes because I don’t have the experience they have right now.”
Fernandez’s journey has indeed been bumpy. His future in MotoGP was once in doubt, but he has turned things around spectacularly. His first win came in Australia last year, and since then he has grown in confidence. This weekend at Aragon, he will be Trackhouse’s main hope after teammate Ai Ogura was ruled out with a wrist injury.
Focus on Process, Not Title
Fernandez declined to talk much about his chances at Aragon. He prefers to focus on what he can control. “We know Marc is very fast here. The situation is a bit different compared to last year. I don’t really know what to expect, but we will do our best,” he said.
“I think my confidence is at the best moment of my career, but we know we are in MotoGP. All the riders here are super strong. It will not be easy to keep this level,” he added.
