Oliver Solberg holds onto the lead after Day 2 of Rally Chile 2026, while Sebastien Ogier turns up the heat on Elfyn Evans in second. The action in South America has been relentless, and the battle is far from over.
The second day kicked off with three morning stages (SS7-SS9). Ogier, starting the day fourth overall, wasted no time. The nine-time world champion set the fastest times in SS7 and SS8, overtaking Adrien Fourmaux and moving into third. But Fourmaux wasn't done. In SS9, the Hyundai driver reclaimed the virtual podium, becoming the only Hyundai in the top three. Meanwhile, Solberg, the rally leader, faced pressure. In the first two stages, he finished fourth, just behind Evans. Evans closed the gap. However, in SS9, Solberg bounced back with the fastest time, extending his advantage over Evans.
Disappointment came from Sami Pajari. The Finnish driver, second in the championship, underperformed. He never finished higher than fifth all day. Pajari arrived in Chile aiming to score points after three consecutive wins. On the other hand, Thierry Neuville had an incident that forced him to retire, though he was unharmed.
SS10-SS12: Ogier Closes In
The afternoon loop reignited the Ogier-Fourmaux duel. In SS10, Ogier returned to the podium zone with the fastest time, beating Fourmaux. The gap widened in SS11 as Ogier again set the pace and closed to within three-tenths of Evans in the overall standings. Evans, who finished fourth on that stage, had to be wary. Although Evans overtook Ogier in SS12, Solberg remained untouchable. The Swedish driver closed the day with a stage win, extending his lead over Evans to nearly twenty seconds ahead of Super Sunday. Pajari was again fifth and will look to rebound tomorrow.
With a significant margin, Solberg appears to be on track for victory. But with Super Sunday often delivering surprises, anything can happen. Ogier, known for his point-scoring prowess, will look to capitalize on every opportunity. Evans won't give up without a fight. Rally Chile 2026 still has a full day of action that promises to thrill WRC fans.
