New Haas driver Rafael Camara faced a steep learning curve on his Formula 1 debut weekend, catching the attention of the stewards after a near-miss with Charles Leclerc during practice at Interlagos.
The rookie received an official reprimand after moving into the racing line during FP2 while preparing for a push lap, unintentionally squeezing the approaching Ferrari towards the run-off area at high speed. The stewards noted that the impeding maneuver was clearly dangerous and warranted a formal reprimand rather than a standard warning.
Despite the setback, Camara's overall opening day behind the wheel showcased consistent progression. He finished 0.86 seconds adrift of teammate Ollie Bearman in FP1 before slicing the gap down to 0.57 seconds in the afternoon session, with data indicating the majority of time was lost through the middle sector.

On the technical front, the young driver wrestled with recurring front-locking issues under heavy braking into Turn 1 across both practice sessions, alongside fine-tuning his throttle application exiting slow speed corners like Turns 2 and 12.
Weighing up the sheer volume of procedures and data to absorb, Haas head of car engineering Hoagy Nidd praised the rookie's resilient approach. "Obviously a massive learning curve today, it's pretty intimidating, but he did brilliantly," Nidd remarked, highlighting the steady telemetry improvements and feedback delivered throughout the day.
