The endurance racing landscape is set for a major shake-up following the announcement that Philipp Eng and BMW M Motorsport will part ways at the end of the year, bringing a successful eleven-year partnership to a close as the Austrian looks toward new opportunities in GT racing.

The Austrian driver's journey with the Munich-based manufacturer began when he was just 16 years old, competing in the Formula BMW junior racing series. His early potential translated into a major triumph in 2007 when he won the Formula BMW World Final, an achievement that earned him a Formula 1 test drive reward with the BMW Sauber F1 Team the following year.

He officially stepped up as a factory driver in 2016, immediately delivering an overall victory at the prestigious 24 Hours of Spa in his very first season. His prowess in endurance racing expanded further with two additional victories at the Ardennes classic in 2018 and 2023, alongside a magnificent class win at the 2019 24 Hours of Daytona driving the BMW M8 GTE for BMW M Team RLL.

Between 2018 and 2022, Eng also showcased his versatility by contesting four seasons in the highly competitive DTM championship, securing one victory and five podium finishes across 72 race starts. When BMW made its high-profile prototype return in 2023, he became an instrumental figure spearheading the development and campaign of the BMW M Hybrid V8.

Across four seasons in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship's top GTP class, he secured two victories and five podiums, culminating in a strong fourth-place finish in the 2025 overall standings alongside co-driver Dries Vanthoor before deciding to embark on a fresh chapter in his professional racing career.

“I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported me during my eleven years at BMW M Motorsport,” said Philipp Eng.

“It has been a fantastic time! Over the years, I’ve made many friends, and I’m very grateful for that. I’m delighted to have won races in every series I’ve competed in – be it the DTM, the IMSA Series, the GT World Challenge or the Intercontinental GT Challenge.”

“Particular highlights were, of course, my three victories at the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps and my success at the 24 Hours of Daytona. Now it is time for me to turn my attention to new and exciting challenges. I wish BMW M Motorsport all the best for the future! I will always cherish the memories of our time together,” he concluded.
