The Formula 1 race weekend at the Circuit of The Americas promises a crucial turning point for the Mercedes squad. After splitting their technical specifications during recent rounds, team principal Toto Wolff has officially confirmed that both cars will run the complete development package in Texas, putting an end to split-car data comparisons.
This decisive step follows a massive upgrade package introduced to the W17 in Malaysia, which did not immediately deliver the expected on-track rewards. During the race weekend in Singapore, Andrea Kimi Antonelli continued running the updated specification, while George Russell reverted to the setup configuration he used to secure victory in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Thorough evaluations have since taken place back at the factory to dissect where the team fell short and how to maximize the potential of their machinery. Toto Wolff emphasized that the Austin venue provides the ideal opportunity for the Brackley-based outfit to stage a strong response as rival constructors continue to find impressive development steps.

“The weekends in Malaysia and Singapore were difficult for us, and we have worked hard to understand where we went wrong,” Toto Wolff explained ahead of the American round, which could potentially mark a decisive milestone in the drivers' championship battle.
“Austin gives us the opportunity to react. We will use our latest upgrade package on both cars; our rivals are growing and we cannot afford to stand still if we want to be protagonists in this final stretch of the season,” the team principal added, highlighting the urgency to maintain a competitive edge.
As the championship enters a demanding triple-header phase, the stakes in the paddock reach an all-time high. Despite the looming possibility of clinching world championship titles, the team insists on maintaining strict focus race by race rather than looking too far ahead.
“The United States Grand Prix marks the start of another demanding triple-header,” Wolff concluded. “The stakes are high, but we do not want to look too far ahead and get distracted by the possibility of celebrating world titles. The goal is to concentrate to the maximum, race by race.”
