Zonta van den Goorbergh faced a disastrous qualifying campaign at the Sepang International Circuit, forced to settle for 26th place on the starting grid. The RW Racing Team rider was severely hampered by persistent electronic issues across both Friday and Saturday sessions, robbing him of vital track time and preventing the team from completing their planned run program.
The Malaysian Grand Prix weekend has completely unraveled for the Dutch rider due to recurring technical gremlins that consistently disrupted his rhythm during practice and qualifying. Despite tireless efforts from the garage crew to find a definitive fix, the electronic failures kept resurfacing, stripping away precious opportunities to gather meaningful data ahead of race day.
The qualifying session brought further misfortune when a sudden quickshifter malfunction restricted him to completing just a single timed lap. Clocking a lap time of 2'05.172, some 1.713 seconds off the pace, he had no choice but to accept a lowly 26th position on the grid for the upcoming Moto2 showdown.

Reflecting on a deeply frustrating weekend, Zonta van den Goorbergh admitted the scale of the challenge ahead. "It is difficult to say much about this weekend because electronic issues restricted our track time significantly. The team worked extremely hard to resolve everything, but the problems kept returning, meaning we could not finish our program or gather enough data," he explained.
Looking ahead to the grand prix, the RW Racing Team hopeful remains determined to salvage a respectable result from the back of the pack. "We will have to make do with whatever information we have for Sunday. It is going to be a long and demanding race, but we will push hard to make up positions and fight to the maximum until the very final lap," he concluded.
