An impressive performance was delivered by Collin Veijer during the qualifying session for the Malaysian Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit. The young Dutch rider secured the sixth starting grid position after posting a fastest lap time of 2 minutes 03.560 seconds under scorching asphalt temperatures reaching 50 degrees Celsius. This positive result marks his return to starting a Moto2 race from one of the first two rows for the first time in five Grand Prix weekends.

The journey to the front was far from straightforward for the Red Bull KTM Ajo rider. Following a strong Friday performance that secured his direct progression to Q2, Saturday morning's second practice session presented a few hurdles. Collin Veijer finished that morning session in thirteenth position with a lap time of 2 minutes 04.569 seconds, while dedicating most of the track time to machine setup and race preparation.

The scenario shifted dramatically when the qualifying session commenced amid intense weather conditions. Despite having his first fast lap time cancelled due to yellow flags, composure prevailed. During his final push, he maximized his machine's potential despite admitting to losing a fraction of time in the final corner due to traffic.

Reflecting on his qualifying performance, Collin Veijer shared his thoughts on the session. I am satisfied with this sixth place and starting from the second row, though naturally you always want more. This morning did not go entirely to plan, but in Q2 the bike felt much better and I knew the speed was there.

Armed with competitive race pace throughout the weekend, a realistic target has been set to fight for a top-eight finish while keeping a close eye on Sepang's unpredictable weather patterns.
