Pedro Acosta has successfully undergone minor surgery on his right wrist after retiring from the 2026 Dutch MotoGP at Assen. The procedure was confirmed by Red Bull KTM Factory Racing in an official statement reported by Crash.net.
Acosta endured a difficult weekend in Assen, dealing with multiple technical issues on the RC16 before eventually retiring on lap 13 because of a physical problem. Television footage showed the Spaniard repeatedly shaking his right hand before returning to the pits, with KTM later confirming he had been suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome.
In its official statement, quoted by Crash.net, KTM confirmed the operation was successful. "Pedro Acosta underwent successful minor surgery this morning on his right wrist to treat Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. He is expected to return for the German GP, pending a medical check next week," the team stated.

The injury adds to a frustrating spell for the Spanish rider, who has now recorded consecutive retirements after also failing to finish the Czech Grand Prix because of a technical issue on the final lap. The back-to-back DNFs have significantly affected his championship campaign during the 2026 season.
Acosta currently sits seventh in the riders' standings, 60 points behind championship leader Jorge Martin. KTM's immediate priority is to have the 22-year-old cleared to compete at the German MotoGP on 10-12 July following his mandatory medical assessment.
KTM still secured a respectable result at Assen through Enea Bastianini, who was promoted to sixth after Marc Marquez received a post-race penalty. However, Acosta's absence from the points once again highlighted the challenges facing the Austrian manufacturer in maintaining consistent competitiveness throughout the championship.
