Looking ahead to the upcoming premier class challenges, Pedro Acosta has surprisingly confessed that he likely would not have performed well had he jumped onto a Ducati MotoGP machine for the 2026 season. The young Spanish sensation was previously heavily linked with a potential switch to the VR46 squad amidst a demanding campaign with his current manufacturer, KTM.

The race winner ultimately chose to honor the final year of his existing contract with the Austrian factory before making a blockbuster move to the factory Ducati squad alongside Marc Marquez for 2027. This transfer stands out as one of the most anticipated and high-profile rider market shifts in recent years, setting up an explosive intra-team battle.

Speaking candidly in an interview with AS, Acosta elaborated on why moving to the Borgo Panigale ranks earlier than planned would have been detrimental to his career progression. The accumulation of stress and mounting disappointment during a difficult phase meant he was mentally unequipped to go toe-to-toe on elite machinery at that exact moment.

"Things turned out the way they did," Acosta stated regarding the delicate situation he faced last season. "Maybe I would have gotten on the bike, but with all the frustration I was carrying, I wouldn’t have done well. So, this opportunity came along when I was ready, especially after getting through that difficult period last year when I was feeling frustrated."

A vital turning point arrived when the talented youngster began turning his fortunes around, extracting superior performance from his bike and outperforming fellow riders on the same brand. That breakthrough moment served as the ultimate validation that his race craft and psychological readiness had reached the required threshold for a factory seat.

Reflecting on his impending arrival in the factory Ducati garage, Acosta views sharing a pit box with the seven-time world champion as an invaluable learning curve before the veteran eventually hangs up his helmet. Absorbing telemetry, work ethic, and garage strategies will form the core of his initial objectives.

"This is the last chance - or one of the last - a young rider will have to learn from him before he retires," Acosta concluded. Having spent six formative years understanding the operational habits inside KTM, his immediate priority upon arrival will be seamless adaptation before attempting to extract speed from the championship-winning motorcycle.
