Oscar Piastri, McLaren driver, broke the Australian record for most Formula 1 wins in a season at the Belgian Grand Prix. SPORTRIK’s analysis shows this surpassed Sir Jack Brabham and Alan Jones’ record. Thus, Piastri cements his status as a top contender.
Piastri’s Historic Victory
Piastri secured his sixth 2025 win at Spa, breaking Brabham’s (1960) and Jones’ (1980) record of five wins. He overtook teammate Lando Norris on the first lap of the rolling start. As a result, Piastri gained a strategic advantage and won comfortably. Consequently, he leads Norris by 16 points heading to the Hungarian GP.
This victory brings Piastri’s career total to eight wins, matching Daniel Ricciardo. He is one win behind Mark Webber’s nine. In contrast, Jones has 12 wins, and Brabham leads with 14.

Australian Record History
Data shows Piastri now tops the Australian seasonal win list:
| Rank | Driver | Year | Wins |
| 1 | Oscar Piastri | 2025 | 6 |
| 2 | Sir Jack Brabham | 1960 | 5 |
| 2 | Alan Jones | 1980 | 5 |
| 3 | Mark Webber | 2010 | 4 |
However, six wins do not guarantee a title. For instance, Lewis Hamilton lost in 2021 with eight wins.
Championship Prospects
SPORTRIK believes Piastri’s Spa performance boosts his title chances. Nevertheless, the Hungarian GP will be pivotal. With strong team strategy, he could maintain his lead.
Piastri’s Belgian win marks a new Australian milestone in Formula 1. Thus, he remains a focal point heading into 2026. SPORTRIK will track his progress. Visit SPORTRIK for Formula 1 news.
