Senna Agius will make the step up to MotoGP in 2027 after Tech3 KTM announced the signing of the Australian rider. The news marks the end of a long wait for the rider who has been making waves in Moto2.
Agius currently sits fourth in the Moto2 standings, a performance that convinced the French-based team to secure his services. His consistency and speed in the intermediate class have proven that he is ready to face the new challenge in the premier class, especially with the technical regulations set to change in 2027.
Agius first caught the eye during his rookie Moto2 season in 2024. The standout moment came at his home race at Phillip Island, where he scored a podium. Since then, he has continued to show rapid progress, claiming four victories and three additional podiums over the last two seasons. That record left Tech3 KTM in no doubt about giving him the seat.
For his first MotoGP season, Agius will partner Luca Marini. The blend of experience and young talent is part of the team's strategy for the new era of MotoGP. Tech3 is known for giving young riders a chance to shine in the top class.
“Today, a lifelong dream of mine has come true: reaching MotoGP,” Agius said in an official release. “So many years of hard work have gone into this moment, and I’m incredibly grateful to Guenther and everyone at Tech3 for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. I can’t wait to repay their faith. I know the challenge ahead, but I’m ready to learn, work hard, and become the best version of myself with this team.”
Tech3 CEO Guenther Steiner also commented: “We believe Senna has the qualities to make a very strong step into MotoGP. He has shown impressive speed and maturity in Moto2, but what really stood out to us was his determination to keep improving and his attitude towards the work required to succeed. We are building a team for a completely new era of MotoGP, and we wanted to combine experience with young talent. Senna represents an exciting part of that future. We know there will be a lot for him to learn but we are ready to support him through that process. We are very pleased to welcome him to Tech3 and look forward to seeing him grow with us.”
The decision also confirms Tech3 KTM's direction of blending experience with regeneration. With new regulations on the horizon, having a hungry young rider could be an advantage. Agius is expected to adapt quickly to the KTM machine and compete at the highest level.
For MotoGP fans, Agius's move adds to the list of young riders set to grace the 2027 grid. His journey from Moto2 to MotoGP will be one to follow, especially as he aims to prove that Tech3's faith in him is justified.
