Lando Norris secured pole position for the 2026 Spanish Grand Prix, Formula 1's first race in Madrid. The reigning world champion snatched his third pole of the season with a stunning last-ditch effort in Q3, edging out his rivals in the McLaren.
Mercedes suffered its fourth consecutive qualifying defeat, but championship leader Andrea Kimi Antonelli will join Norris on the front row. The qualifying session was incredibly tight, with times very close at the top.
Max Verstappen will start third for Red Bull, alongside old rival and Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton on the second row. Hamilton held provisional pole after the first runs in Q3 but slipped to fourth as his rivals improved.
Charles Leclerc starts fifth in the other Ferrari, while George Russell lines up sixth on the third row. The top ten is completed by McLaren's Oscar Piastri in seventh, Red Bull's Liam Lawson in eighth, Alpine's Franco Colapinto in ninth, and Racing Bulls' Arvid Lindblad in tenth.
Ollie Bearman was unable to participate in qualifying due to damage from his FP3 crash, forcing him to start from the back row alongside Lance Stroll of Aston Martin. Stroll also did not set a time due to a suspected water pressure leak in his car.
