Norris hopes McLaren has fixed a car issue that has hampered him in recent races

Lando Norris is hopeful McLaren has found a fix for the baffling speed loss that has affected his Formula 1 car in recent races. The reigning world champion struggled for pace in both Azerbaijan and Malaysia, only managing to qualify fifth at each round before encountering further setbacks during the main grands prix.

Lando Norris, who has taken two victories this season, previously claimed his McLaren was suffering from a painful straight-line speed deficit costing him around two-tenths of a second per lap. Ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix weekend, the British driver suggested that the team has made tangible progress in discovering the root cause.

Speaking during Thursday's pre-event driver press conference, Lando Norris noted that numerous learnings were gathered not just from his driving perspective, but also regarding general car behavior and how to replicate the strong pace previously seen at venues like Budapest, Zandvoort, and Madrid.

"There was a fair few learnings both from my side, from us as a team from like what happened in the race, but also just general things from a car point of view and what we need to do a better job in, and how can we get back to the same level as we were in the previous few - Budapest, Zandvoort, Madrid," Lando Norris said. He added that the team has worked flat out to address obvious issues like straight-line speed alongside more complex technical parameters.

With Marina Bay placing less emphasis on straight-line performance compared to recent layouts, Lando Norris remains cautiously optimistic that the upgrades and findings will yield an immediate competitive response on track this weekend.
