Nicolo Bulega put on a masterclass performance to sit in a league of his own during the season-ending WorldSBK weekend at the Jerez circuit, leaving his competitors with no choice but to acknowledge his overwhelming speed.

This daunting reality was openly admitted by Iker Lecuona, who had already written off his chances of fighting for victory following the conclusion of FP2 on Friday. The Spanish rider remained pessimistic after the Superpole session despite feeling slightly more comfortable aboard his machine ahead of the crucial races.

Speaking directly to the WorldSBK world feed after Superpole, Iker Lecuona detailed his struggles from the opening day of track action. Yesterday I had a really bad feeling, Iker Lecuona said while reflecting on the handling issues that hampered his initial preparations.

Things improved marginally on Saturday morning with used rubber, yet the gap to the front remained glaringly obvious. This morning a bit better with used tyres, I know Nicolo Bulega is in another world this weekend, so I put the focus on my pace, he explained regarding his tactical shift in approach.

The competitive landscape behind the dominant Ducati rider remains tightly contested among the chasing pack. Also Sam did a really good job, he is fast so for sure we are in a small group there, Iker Lecuona added while assessing the upcoming battle.

Let’s see what we can do during the race, in any case, I think we did a good step, then let’s see after the race what we can find for tomorrow, he concluded with cautious optimism. Meanwhile, Nicolo Bulega expressed immense delight after securing pole position in what marked his final Superpole appearance before transitioning to MotoGP.

I feel very good, it’s nice to make my last pole position here in World Superbike, so thanks to my team and I hope to continue to be fast, the Italian star stated from the paddock.
