The future landscape of Grand Prix motorcycle racing has sparked intense discussions as Pecco Bagnaia openly voiced his strong approval of the upcoming weekend format overhaul scheduled for the 2027 season. Speaking during the media day sessions ahead of the race weekend at the Mandalika circuit, the factory rider insisted that implementing two separate qualifying sessions for both the Sprint and the main Grand Prix represents a positive step forward for the championship.
The major concept of dividing the grid-deciding sessions has instantly become the hottest topic within the paddock. For quite some time, competitors had to rely on a single qualifying session to set their starting positions for both races, a system which Pecco Bagnaia believes carries too many limitations and risks whenever crashes or yellow flag incidents disrupt a flying lap.
"I like it, I think it's a positive thing and I consider it an improvement," Pecco Bagnaia remarked when discussing the new regulations during the media scrum. He emphasized that he and the other riders present in the Safety Commission during the Japanese round readily agreed to the proposal because the reasoning behind the changes was thoroughly explained and clearly understood.

Despite giving his complete backing to the new format, Pecco Bagnaia also stressed the vital importance of reinstating the Warm-up session. In his view, heading straight into a Grand Prix without completing a few exploratory laps beforehand to properly understand new tires and machinery configurations simply poses unnecessary variables for the competitors.
Addressing concerns regarding the potential danger of packing 22 riders together into a single Q1 session, Pecco Bagnaia dismissed the panic by pointing out that the intensity level is already quite similar during the frantic final fifteen minutes of Friday's practice sessions.
