MotoGP has finally locked in its 2027 schedule, and the spotlight falls on the return of street racing in Adelaide after a 28-year absence. The race, set for November 14, 2027, is one of two new venues on the calendar, alongside Buenos Aires, which will host the Argentine Grand Prix on April 9-11.
Adelaide last hosted a Grand Prix in 1999, on the same street circuit. Now, after extensive discussions, MotoGP has officially added Adelaide to the 22-round season. This marks a historic moment as Adelaide will be the only street circuit on the 2027 calendar.
The season will kick off in Buriram, Thailand, on March 7, followed by the Qatar round at Lusail a week later. Then the paddock heads to Brazil for the Goiania Grand Prix on April 4, before moving to Argentina for the Buenos Aires race on April 11. This back-to-back South American swing signals MotoGP's big expansion into the region.
Europe remains the heart of the calendar, with classic rounds at Le Mans, Mugello, Assen, and Sachsenring all retained. The Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia will close the season on November 28, as previously announced. Valencia will be the final test for riders after a grueling stretch, including three Asia-Pacific rounds: Japan, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
With 22 rounds, the 2027 season is one of the busiest in MotoGP history. Riders and teams must brace for a tight schedule, especially with the Adelaide race demanding quick adaptation to street circuit characteristics. Adelaide is known for its narrow corners and close walls, similar to other legendary street tracks. This will be a unique challenge for rookies and champions alike.
The decision to race in Adelaide also reflects MotoGP's efforts to expand its fan base in Australia, following previous successes at Phillip Island. However, Phillip Island is not on the 2027 calendar, meaning Australia will have only one Grand Prix, in Adelaide. This is a significant shift from recent seasons.
With the new calendar composition, the 2027 title fight is expected to be even more intense. Manufacturers must prepare logistics and strategies for a variety of circuits, from permanent tracks to street courses. Fans are already eager to witness the action in Adelaide, which promises to be one of the most thrilling races of the season.
