Marco Morelli wrapped up a dramatic weekend at MotorLand Aragon with a wide smile. The Aspar Team rider secured third place at the 2026 Aragon GP, simultaneously extending his lead over closest rival Veda Ega Pratama in the Moto3 championship standings.
Starting from second on the grid, Morelli was shuffled out of the top three after a chaotic first corner. But his determination to fight back paid off. He finished behind the Spanish duo, Maximo Quiles, who took another victory, and David Almansa, who came home second.
This podium was Morelli's fourth of the 2026 season, following previous rostrums in Brazil, Spain, and the Netherlands. The result further solidifies his fifth place in the standings with 131 points, though he still trails Quiles by a massive 125 points at the top.
More importantly, this success has widened the gap over Veda Ega Pratama. Before Aragon, the Honda Team Asia rider was his nearest rival in sixth. However, a tough weekend forced Veda to finish 20th, failing to score any significant points. As a result, Veda dropped to seventh with 97 points, now 34 points behind Morelli.
Morelli admitted the Aragon race was highly challenging. He made a mistake that cost him time and forced him to push his tires harder to rejoin the leading group. Still, he was proud of his team's ability to bounce back after a pointless outing at Silverstone in the previous round.
“It felt like we took a step back, but at Aragon we moved three steps forward,” Morelli said. “I wanted to fight for the win, but in the end I was at the limit. Finishing behind Quiles and Almansa is my target from now on, optimizing details and closing the gap to them,” he added.
