Tension inside the Ferrari garage is heating up ahead of the Italian Grand Prix at Monza. Former F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya believes Charles Leclerc's radio incident in Zandvoort could set a dangerous precedent for team harmony.
In an interview with AS Colombia, Montoya highlighted the moment when Charles Leclerc appeared to defy pit wall instructions during the Dutch Grand Prix. According to Montoya, that action was like opening a terrifying Pandora's box.
“What Leclerc did by disobeying his engineer has opened a terrible Pandora's box,” Montoya said. “It's as if he's telling the team, 'I'm above your orders, and if I don't agree with something, I won't do it.' That cannot happen.”
Montoya added that such an attitude would only create a negative atmosphere and trigger internal tension at Ferrari, especially as the team tries to bounce back after two races without a podium in Hungary and Zandvoort—circuits that should have suited the SF-26.
On the other hand, Montoya admitted that Lewis Hamilton might not have made the podium in Zandvoort, but he still had a chance. “Hamilton was half a second faster, and Ferrari tried to avoid trouble by calling Leclerc in, but Charles basically showed he's not willing to listen if it involves Hamilton,” he explained.
Hamilton himself apologized after criticizing the team's strategy during the race in the Netherlands. Now all eyes are on Monza, where Ferrari hopes to be competitive in front of their home crowd, but internal dynamics are stealing the spotlight.
