A breathtaking collection of historic Formula 1 machinery previously retained by the Woking-based outfit has officially been put up for sale. As reported by Speedcafe, McLaren has decided to part ways with five iconic racing cars driven by luminaries such as Lando Norris, Gerhard Berger, and Jenson Button, with Ayrton Senna and Lewis Hamilton also having sampled several of the chassis during testing sessions.

All five cars are being retailed through British specialist dealer Tom Hartley Jr, with each available for individual purchase. The constructor has kept these vehicles under its direct ownership since their respective racing careers concluded and will prepare them meticulously for their new custodians, with older examples set to undergo complete restorations prior to delivery.

While exact asking prices remain under wraps, Reuters has reported that valuations are expected to span between £5 million and £10 million per vehicle. Among the headline offerings is the 2023 MCL37A chassis 03, which McLaren proudly claims is the newest F1 car ever made available to a private buyer in the history of the sport.

That specific chassis was raced to runner-up finishes in Singapore and Japan by Lando Norris before being retained for internal testing duties, where it was subsequently sampled by Oscar Piastri, Pato O'Ward, Mick Schumacher, Valtteri Bottas, and Martin Brundle, alongside Hollywood star Brad Pitt during a private filming session at COTA. The collection also features Norris's 2021 MCL35M chassis 01, famous for its podiums and special Gulf livery.

McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown shed light on the emotional yet pragmatic choice to release these museum pieces back into the wild. "We have decided to part with these iconic McLaren Formula 1 cars because we feel that having them simply sitting in storage is a disservice to what they represent," he stated, emphasizing that the machines were originally engineered to be driven hard on a racetrack rather than gathering dust.
