The MotoGP Qatar race weekend at the Lusail International Circuit brings fresh technical insights from Maverick Vinales. The Red Bull KTM Tech3 rider shared his perspective on the desert track's unique characteristics, highlighting why finding the right rhythm matters far more than raw straight-line horsepower when hunting for fast lap times.
Discussing the challenges of the floodlit circuit, the experienced Spaniard explained that Lusail demands exceptional harmony between rider and machine. The specific tarmac grip levels and sweeping corners mean that maintaining momentum through the apexes dictates overall success far more than engine output alone during braking zones.
Reflecting on past triumphs at the venue, the veteran rider emphasized that top speed takes a backseat to rhythm on this layout. "Here it is especially important to get into a rhythm. If you manage to create that flow, it is much more important than top speed," Vinales stated, recalling how he previously secured victory here even while conceding ground on the straights.

His previous winning experience proves that maximizing corner speed and maintaining tire integrity can easily compensate for a slight deficit in maximum velocity down the main straight. This philosophy becomes even more critical as the team fine-tunes their RC16 setup throughout the opening practice sessions under the Qatari lights.
Meanwhile, the opening 45-minute session in Lusail showcased mixed fortunes for the Austrian manufacturer. Young talent Pedro Acosta spearheaded the charge by breaking into the top four, while Vinales continued working through his setup to bridge the gap ahead of fellow KTM contender Enea Bastianini as the weekend action intensifies.
